In 1787 Abner co-administered his father's estate with his stepmother, Mary. His father left him the tan yard , the leather stock and the shop stove. Hepaid personal property tax in Berkeley Co. for the years 1787 through 1793.Abner was baptized at the Mill Creek Baptist Church between January and November of 1792, as mentioned in the Minutes for 24 Nov 1792. Martha, probablyjoined the church in the summer of 1794. They were dismissed 7 Aug 1794 fromthe Mill Creek Church to "Miamis on the Kentucky". They also sold their three lots in Gerrardstown at this time. It is assumed they went straight to the Ohio Territory where they gave the name Ohio to their first child born in the new territory. Abner "Jerrett" appears on the Columbia Twp, Hamilton Co.Ohio Tax Assessment list in 1796. He attended the founding of the Miamia Co,Ohio Tax Assessment list in 1796. He attened the founding of the Miami Valley Baptist Association November 1797 with his brothers, Jonathan and Nathaniel, John Buckles and John Sutton. On 3 June 1798 he attended the Association again. His name also appeared on the Hamilton Co. Ohio special census listin 1798. He entered land in Washington Township of Montgomery Co, Ohio, 30Dec 1801 for which the patent was issued 30 July 1812. There he built a house of stone quarried on his land. Abner and Martha were received by letter to the Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Montgomery Co 1 May 1801. He was appointeda Justice of the Peace and performed the first marriage in the county. According to 'The Ohio Hundred Year Book, p. 263, List of Members of the General Assembly", Abner served in the House in 1803 for Hamilton Co, then in 1813 heserved in the Senate for Montgomery Co. Abner was a stockholder in the firstwoolen mill in Washington Twp., as were Jacob and John Gerrard, Thomas Clawson and William Luce. Thomas was an uncle to John Shanks who had married Abner's dauther, Elizabeth. William Luce was the husband of Judith, another daughter of Abner's. When the Panic of 1819-1820 hit, most of the stockholderssold out about 1821. Since Abner and William Luce were major stockholders, and had died in this time period, both their estates were snarled by the debtsof the company. The inventory of Abner's estate was filed 19 May 1819 withthe sale held the next day. Abner died April of 1919, intestate, MontgomeryCo. Probate Records, file No. 381. Martha relinquished her right to administer the estate in favor of her son, Jonathan and William Buckles. A Chancery Court proceeding Jun 1822, to settle a land description, named the heirs of Abner with minors listed as Jefferson, Martha, Milton and Henry. On 2 Nov1825 the heirs who were minors in 1822, were of legal age, and Judith, then the wife of Richard Boland, sold land. (I believe they meant to say Martha Lloyd, as she was the daughter married to Richard Boland) The names of all brothers and sisters were named in the estate of Thomas, when he died in 1829.
