COLUMBUS- Howard 'Howie'¬ù R. Nehmer was called to his eternal home on Wednesday, March 31, 2010.
He was born on November 28, 1945 to Lester and Phyllis Nehmer. Howie grew up in Columbus, attending local schools, Luth er Prep and Northwestern College in Watertown, WI. He attended Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, and served as vic ar in Medford, WIbefore graduating in 1972.
Howard married Diane Kloth on June 17, 1972. They began their lives together in Montana, where Howard served as Pasto r for congregations in Terry, Ekalaka, Glendive and Great Falls.
In 1976, he moved his family back to Wisconsin, and began a new career in farming, and for the past 15 years, also work ed for Trachte Building Systems in Sun Prairie. Howie loved to watch his sons participate in sports, hunt, help on th e farm, and watch his state sports' teams. He took great pleasure watching his two grandsons grow, and they brought jo y to his face and his heart. He especially enjoyed his morning coffee with friends at the restaurant, swapping storie s and sharing friendships.
Howie also enjoyed traveling with Diane, visiting friends in Montana, Oregon, and Wisconsin. He loved looking over th e Beartooth Pass, Grand Canyon, and was happiest among his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a faithful member o f Zion Lutheran Church.
Howard is survived by his wife, Diane and three sons: Phil Nehmer (Heather, Kiana and Kylie Meinholz) of Cottage Grove ; Chris and Amanda Nehmer of Beaver Dam; and Jeff and Dawn Nehmer of Columbus; along with two grandsons, Caleb and Bren t. He isalso survived by a brother, James (Helen) Nehmer and a sister, Diane (Dan) Williamson, both of Columbus, alon g with aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his p arents.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. (Noon) on Monday, April 5, 2010 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus wit h Rev. Robert Wilke officiating. Visitation will also take place on Monday, April 5th from 9:30 a.m. until the time o f the service at thechurch. Burial will be held at Okeeg Cemetery in Danville, with a luncheon to follow at Zion Luther an School in Columbus.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, Memorials will be distributed by the family to charities of their choice. |
