My family tree

Carl Frederick August Stelse, one of the old settlers in this vicinity, was laid to rest in the Moravian cemetery, Mond ay, by the side of his wife, who passed to her eternal home in the spring of 1925. Mr Stelse was born in Janico, Pommerania, Germany, December 14, 1849. He received his secular and religious education i n the school of the German state church. About the age of 14 years he was confirmed and became a communicant member o f the church in hishome town. On November 23, 1872, he was united in holy matrimony with Augusta Lange of Shoenow, Pomm erania. The union was blessed with nine children. Three of them preceded their father to their eternal rest. In October 1889, the family came to America and found employment on the Phillips farm near Lake Mills. Later, Mr Stels e rented several farms near Waterloo, then near Kypke Grove. Finally, he purchased the August Woelffer farm near Favill e Grove where he resided for twenty years. On November 9, 1902, he united with the Moravian church at Lake Mills. His w ife departed this life on the 21st day of April, 1925. . . . In general, he enjoyed good health until the last hour, co nsidering his advanced age. Fridayafternoon he was suddenly attacked by a paralytic stroke which ended his long caree r at very short notice. He attained the age of 82 years, 9 months, and 14 days.
