WILLIAM M. LLOYD (Thomas, Henry Jr., Henry Sr., David) WILLIAM MOORE LLOYD b. 1815, Pa. d. Aug. 29, 1888, Altoona, Pa. (a). When he was young, he had a warehouse and his brother ALEXANDER worked there for a time. The 1870 census of .Altoona l ists him as a banker, and according to the Altoona Mirror of Feb. 6, 1964 he was a founder of the First National Bank t here, serving aspresident. The charter was granted in 1863 by President A. Lincoln. He was one of the organizers of t he 2nd. Presbyterian church of Altoona and was a trustee there, and in 1871 was an elder, (b) Married Jan. 27(?) 1841 JANE E. LOWRY. (c) who was b. 1819. Parent's name - JOHN F. LOWRY. The following is taken from the will of William Lloyd of Altoona Pa. (d) The heirs were daughters, CLAYANNA L. HUTCHIN SON. And CATHARINE JANE KINKEAD, - land in Barnes Co. Dakota Territory. And in Stutsman Co., Dakota Territory, ALICE L . KITCHEL equal shares of all real and personal property held in trust by WILLIAM LLOYD Jr. of Jamestown, (now N. Dakot a). William Jr., CORNELIUS KITCHEL, and MAXWELL KINKEAD and EDWARD HUTCHINSON, sons-in-law to be executors. Signed Ja n. 3, 1887. (d) Witnesses - Henry Snyder and W.D. Couch. Renunciation papers were signed Sept. 19, 1888 by the others, and William Kinkead acted as executor. Maxwell Kinkead was a Deacon of the 2nd Presbyterian church in 1871 at Altoona. (b) ISSUE JOHN E. ALTOONA MIRROR, Feb. 6, 1964 Altoona's "Pioneer Bank", First National, was "born before the city. The founding of First National took place simulta neously with the birth of modern banking in the United States in 1863 - 5 years before the city of Altoona obtained it s charter." On Feb. 25 of that year, Abraham Lincoln signed into law the National Currency Act, providing for the issuance of a ne w currency, and authorizing the creation of a new system of banks chartered by the federal government. A group of five Altoona businessmen, headed by WILLIAM M. LLOYD, applied for a federal charter on Dec. 31, 1863. The c harter was granted, and 51 days later the First National Bank of Altoona opened for business. The president of the ne w bank was WilliamM. Lloyd and with him on the board of Directors, THOMAS L. CALDWELL, DAVID T. CALDWELL, GEORGE F. MUF F and JOHN LLOYD. Altoona's "Pioneer Bank," First rational, served its first customer Feb. 10, 1864-and in the century whic h followed witnessed the, growth of the city from a frontier village to its present status as one of the major population centers and key distrib ution points of the nation. Altoona's First National Bank, in fact, was "born" before the city. PA^ MONDAY, OCTOI JOHN LLOYD SR.-A distinguished banker in Altoona at the turn of the century, John Lloyd Sr. also was identified with other business interests. He was president of the First National Bank for many years and was associated with Altoona Coal & Coke Co., Henrietta Coal & Mining Co., Edison Electric Illuminating Co. and Columbia Coal & Mining Co. At the time of his death. in May 1921, he resided at Maple Avenue and Twenty-second Street He is buried in Faindew Cemetery.
