MARGARET LLOYD (Henry Sr., David) This daughter MARGARET, I have placed here in this record because as far as we know, she did not go to Penn. with he r father. The only records we have been able to find of her, were after her marriage to JOHN CARNEY. MARGARET LOYD (Lloyd) b. August 1759 in Frederick Co., Va. (a)(b) Died Aug. 1844 in Bartholomew Co., Ind. Buried in Bick Farm cemetery, near Columbus, Ind. I understand that the grav e marker said that she was 85 years old when she died. Married JOHN CARNEY, possibly in Botetourt Co., Va. though no record has been found there, (d) JOHN CARNEY b. April 15, 1757 in Frederick Co., Va. (b, j) Died possibly 1844. According to Mrs. Gene Tennant of Linton, Ind. the family think 1844 was the date of death becaus e great grandmother, MARIAH JANE BLACKLETTER said that she had been told that Margaret and John died within three week s of each other, and are both buried in Bick Cemetery where her daughter, KATIS ROBB found Margaret's marker in 1923 . A broken one close to it, Mariah said, was John's. The family has record of his Rev. War Pension being paid last o n Sept. 4, 1840 in Jennings Co., Ind. But the family moved to Bartholomew Co. that year and they do not have further r ecord. If there is one it might be found in National Archives. John enlisted in the Revolution in 1776 in Botetourt Co., Va. where his father and a sister, Elizabeth and brother, Tho mas and probably other members of the family went from Frederick Co. John was also discharged in Botetout Co. where h e came in 1774. HENRY LOYD's estate papers (d) in Huntingdon Co., Pa. 1802 say that he had a daughter, MARGARET married to JOHN CARNEY . The only John Carney in Virginia found who was married to a Margaret, was the one mentioned above. We know nothin g of Margaret untilshe was Margaret Carney. John's Rev. pension papers say her name was Margaret FLOYD. There were Fl oyd families in Virginia but we do know that Loyd, Loyde, Floyd, Flood were common corruptions of the Welch name of Llo yd. (Llwyd). Mr. STUART LLOYD of New Jersey talked with a Welch couple who were visiting in this country, and they told him that th e double LL is pronounced in Welch almost like our English F. So, no doubt those early Welch pronounced it the Welch w ay, and the English recorder had to write down about what he heard, since few people could spell, read or write in thos e days. So names in the early records are very confusing.. I am personally convinced that this is the record of Henr y Lloyd's dau. Margaret, and three or four of her descendants have written me that they are convinced too. Mrs. ANNE 0 'NAN of Indianapolis, Ind. told me that some research had been done on Margaret Floyd but that she had never been found . In a Miami Co. History, Ohio, DAVID LLOYD was written as FLOYD.(c) The name of one of Margaret's children adds to th e evidence that she was a Lloyd. She had a son HENRY, the name of her father, and of a brother. Circumstantial evidence indicates that she also had a son DAVID, the name of her grandfather, and a brother. His ful l name was DAVID LLOYD CARNEY! He was b. in 1781 when she was about 21 or 22, in Botetourt Co., Va. Later he lived i n Cincinnati, and then across the river in Campbell Co., Ky. This area is not too far from Jennings and Bartholomew co unties, Ind. so several things fit in pretty well, tho we have no proof so far. On the strength of this, I include DAV ID LLOYD CARNEY's record along with MARGARET'S other children. Mr. RICHARD BECKNER of Bradenton, Fla., a descendant o f David L. Carney, agrees that Margaret Floyd was MARGARET LLOYD, daughter of HENRY Sr. LLOYD. After leaving Virginia the Carney family went to what was then Washington Co. North Carolina which became Tennessee an d included most of what is now the state of Tennessee. THOMAS CARNEY is listed in Washington Co. Tenn Tax lists unti l 1799. About 1801John at least, moved his family to Scott Co. Ky. where an early WILLIAM CARNEY was living in 1800. ( 1800 census) They stayed there until 1819, when they went to Jennings Co., Ind. and lived there for a number of years . In 1840 PLEASANT & ELIZABETH madeanother move, this time to Bartholomew Co., Ind. By this time JOHN and MARGARET we re living with them, and went along. This bit of the family story was given to me by various descendants. ISSUE of John & Margaret Carney DAVID LOYD CARNEY b. 1781 in Va., possibly Botetourt Co. (1). Died between 1855 and 60 in Campbell Co., Ky. m. SARAH BEALL. JOHN CARNEY PLEASANT CARNEY b. March 10, 1786, Botetourt Co. Va.(f) d. 1844 or 45. Married ELIZABETH EMERSON, (b) HENRY CARNEY JULIA CARNEY Mrs. ANNE O'NAN of Indianapolis, Ind. wrote that she had been shown an old letter written by Pleasant which mentioned t wo brothers and a sister. They were JOHN,HENRY, & JULIA. No further data.
