Abner is named in a deed from his father. Charlotte and Abner lived in
Staunton Township, Miami Co. Ohio in the 1820 and 1830 census. In the 1830
census five sons and four daughters were listed with the parents. In 1837 the
family moved to Indiana and settled in Tippecanoe Twp. Kosciusko County where
they were found on the 1840 and 1850 census. The name was spelled Gerard in
1840 and Garard in 1850. The names of the children are from a biographical
sketch of Abner's family by Orlando F. Gerard, a grandson.
