Albert Nehmer was born on September 27, 1872, the third child of Daniel and Fredericke Faber Nehmer, in Germany. On Apr il 11, 1891, at age 18, he, his parents and 2 younger sisters left Casekow, Germany for the US. Leaving Hamburg on th e German ship Slavonia, they arrived at the Port of Baltimore on April 28, 1891.
The family came to Jefferson County, WI where the rest of their family had settled and Albert worked on a farm. On Marc h 4, 1893, Albert married Anna Stelse. Albert's family spent time in Jefferson, Marathon and Clark Counties in Wisconsi n beforesettlingin Milwaukee sometime after 1914. Albert and Anna had eleven children. Nine grew to adulthood.
Albert filed a declaration of Intention for citizenship on October 31, 1894 and became a citizen on June 1, 1908.
Albert died August 30, 1928 and Anna in October of 1943. Both are buried in Milwaukee, WI.
Albert died of suicide - strychnine poisoning. The autopsy report gave the reason as poor health. |
