Shared note
According to history, the Town of Glendale (WI) settlement of Germans, to the greatest extent Lutherans, came from th e metropolis of the State during the panic of 1893. They first attended Church in Elroy, until in the winter of 1894 Re verend William Parisius conducted school in the Schauer Valley, and through the children gained parents for the Church. In January 1898, a number of Lutherans gathered at the Gustav Schauer home for the purpose of organizing a congregation , of which there were 13 charter members: William Wallberg, Fred Schauer, Robert Holtz, Ferdinand Ziese, Gustav Schauer , William Knoll,Julius Weber, Carl Schauer, William Wiesphennig, John Zirk, William Ludwig and William Matz. Services w ere held in various homes for a time, and on October 10, 1898 Gustav and Anna Schauer deeded an acre of land to the Ger man Lutheran Church for the purpose of a German Lutheran Church and Cemetery. (from the St Lukes Evangelical Lutheran C hurch 80th Anniversary Celebration bulletin, September 9, 1979.)
